Creative Writing Workshops
OUR NEXT CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE IN ANDALUCIA , SPAIN MAY 14 – 19TH 2023
The delightful Casa del Rio, boutique hotel set in the stunning landscape of the Ronda Serrania will host a creative writing course in the second week of May ‘23, run by Chalk the Sun, a British-based creative writing enterprise.
Ask yourself the following. Have you:
- Always wanted to write but never got round to it?
- Written in the past and want to get going again?
- Always felt you had a story to tell or some poetry in your soul?
- Written lots of business stuff but now want to get creative?
If you answer ‘yes’ to any or all of the above, this course could suit you.
The tutor will be Gaucín resident Jo Hepplewhite, founder of the Gaucín Writers group who published their eighth collection of short stories in December last year. Jo has taught in community colleges, at Westminster and Middlesex universities, at the University for the Creative Arts in Kent, in care homes, building sites, and in a prison.
Jo has a master’s degree in creative writing and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), so she likes to combine her knowledge of language as a communicative tool with her belief that everyone can benefit by exploring human experience through the practice of writing poems and stories. She is often heard to quote Edison: “Genius is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration”. You need to want to write, she feels, but you also need to acquire the requisite skills and techniques via the range of engaging and instructive exercises and activities that are built into the course. She also subscribes to Virginia Woolf’s ‘A room of one’s own” maxim: too many of us have so many demands made on our time, energy and attention by our day to day lives that the time to nurture our inner writer is never available to us. So alongside the structured sessions, the course offers time for individual work and exploration in the tranquil and picturesque surroundings.
With a luxurious room, breakfast and dinner provided, stimulating company, group work and at least one individual tutorial, the course allows writers to focus entirely on writing, and to emerge at the end of the week with a project well on the road to realisation.
Course dates: SUNDAY 14TH MAY – FRIDAY 19TH MAY 2023
